CEU Providers
A Continuing Education Provider delivers required continuing education for licensed instructors. Nevada licensed instructors must complete 30 or 60 hours of continuing education to renew an instructor license for 2 or 4 years. The CEU Provider Application collects information from Continuing Education Providers for approval to offer courses to instructors. Each course from a CEU Provider requires a CEU Provider Application for review before approval.
CEU Providers are limited to the following:
-
The Nevada State Board of Cosmetology
-
Universities or Community Colleges
-
Licensed Schools of Cosmetology
-
Organizations that write textbooks or curriculum within the cosmetology industry
-
Providers of Board-approved cardiopulmonary resuscitation or first-aid courses
-
Providers of Board-approved laser safety officer training courses
IF YOU ARE NOT WITHIN A CATEGORY LISTED ABOVE, YOU WILL NOT BE APPROVED AS A CEU PROVIDER.
CEU courses are limited to the following areas of curriculum:
-
Science
-
Health
-
Business
-
Technology
-
Education or teaching methodology
-
Language
-
Advanced cosmetology
-
Advanced esthetics
CEU Providers must update the Board with any changes to approved CEU courses. Any change to contact information or website must be sent to the Board via email at info@nvcosmo.com. Changes made to course location, course curriculum, or educator information require a new CEU Provider Application. CEU Providers may be removed from the approved list of courses if the course no longer meets the requirements or if the course has changed.
Please refer to NAC 644A.260 regarding continuing education course curriculum requirements.
Please direct any questions regarding CEUs via email to info@nvcosmo.com before submitting an application.

Training Licensed Individuals (Not Providing CEUs to Instructors)
Continuing Education Units are only required for licensed instructors.
A CEU Provider Application is not required to teach advanced training courses or professional development classes. For licensees who want to provide advanced training or professional development courses to other licensees, the provider of the class/course must ensure the following requirements are met:
The topic of the course/class must fall within the scope of practice for the provider and course participant(s). The provider teaching the course must be actively licensed and authorized to perform the scope of work being taught in the class, course, or seminar. The course/class must be taught in a licensed establishment.
Providers must also keep a detailed record of class days, times, and attendees available for inspection by the Board. You must verify the license type and confirm active status before accepting the class participant’s registration. Participants must have an active license. If work is being done on live models, the course participant must bring their physical license to the course. If the individual is a student of a school of cosmetology or is unlicensed in the state of Nevada, they cannot take the course. You can verify licenses online: https://www.nvcosmo.com/licensee-lookup.
Advertisements for any advanced training courses or professional development classes must be clear and contain a disclaimer that states 1) the course does not lead to licensure and 2) a license is required to provide the service being taught in the course. Advanced training courses or professional development classes cannot advertise as a school, university, academy, etc.
For questions regarding teaching advanced training courses or professional development classes, please contact inspection@nvcosmo.com.
Instructors Submitting CEUs for Renewal
Instructors must submit 30 hours when renewing a license issued for 2 years OR 60 hours when renewing a license issued for 4 years. Instructors must submit CEUs for the period the last license was issued. For example, if you were issued a license for 2 years, you must account for the 30 hours of CEUs you completed during the time frame that the license was issued.
CEU hours must be reported to the Board via email to info@nvcosmo.com prior to submitting a renewal form for review and approval. Only Board-approved CEU courses will be accepted.
All hours for continuing education credits (CEUs) must be properly documented in written format (certificates of completion, report cards, training records, university/community college transcripts, etc.). This documentation must verify the licensee's name, the course title as submitted to the Board, the completion date, the Course Educator’s name/signature, and the number of hours earned. The total number of hours earned must match the amount submitted to the Board on the application.
If the documents provided to the Board do not clearly indicate the hours taken, the documents will not be accepted. The falsification of any such documents, or any information contained therein, is a ground for disciplinary action against the licensee.
Individuals listed as the Course Educator on a CEU Provider Application cannot receive credit for any course where they are listed as the Educator. CEU Course Educators cannot issue CEU credits and/or hours to themselves.
The same course cannot be completed multiple times within the same renewal cycle to meet the CEU hour requirement. Certificates for repeated classes or curriculum will not be accepted.
