If you have completed hours outside the state of Nevada (out of state or out of the country) in a beauty school program, you must pass the theory, Nevada State Law, and practical tests in Nevada to obtain a license.
Please be sure to contact the school you attended and or your state's Board office and request a breakdown of hours to be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or regular mail. Confirm these documents have been received and accepted before submitting an Individual Application.
In order to obtain a license in Nevada, we will need proof of the out of country license, schooling, and training. All of these documents must be translated to English by a court-approved translator from this list. Once the documents are translated, they must be submitted for approval. Once we receive and review the documents, we will be able to determine if the applicant needs to go back to school to complete a certain amount of hours, complete a full program, or be eligible to test for a license right away.
The documents you will need to submit for approval are as follows:
ID Card or Driver’s License
Passport book from your country (all pages, even blank ones)
Social Security Card or ITIN Documents
Proof of Training (Beauty School Transcripts with Breakdown of Hours, Final timecards, Diploma) Originals only
Proof of Licensing (If Applicable)
Any name change documents (Marriage Certificate, Divorce Decree, Citizenship Documents, etc)
If you are unable to provide all of the above documents, please provide as many as you can to support your training and experience. Submit these documents for review in person at one of our locations in Reno or Las Vegas.
Please be aware that the Nevada State Board of Cosmetology does not currently accept out of country documents or training for Hair Design or Hair Styling. If you wish to become licensed in Hair Design, you would need to obtain your training at a licensed school in Nevada. This is according to NAC 644A.640, which prohibits the Board from accepting out of State or Country Hair Design training.
Applicants with training from schools in Vietnam will not be accepted. Training for cosmetology services in Vietnam is not equivalent to the training required in the state of Nevada. These individuals will need to complete a program at a licensed school of cosmetology in Nevada or at a school within the United States recognized by the Nevada State Board of Cosmetology. For further information, contact the staff below for assistance in Vietnamese.
